"Unofficial" Albums
A folk song-cycle telling the story of baseball. The entire album was written and recorded for February Album Writing Month (FAWM) in 2008. As such, it is a little rough around the edges, but a very satisfying listen.
Written and recorded entirely in a week in 2007 as part of the Album in a Week challenge, also a little rough around the edges, but one of Ross' most diverse collections stylistically. Enjoy songs like "Too Tight," and "Opposites Day."
The Hard Rain Project
According to the liner notes of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, the song "A Hard Rain's a Gonna Fall" was written during the cold war, and every line was really the beginning of a whole other song he thought he would never get to write. Ever since I read that in 1986, I have thought that writing those songs would be an interesting thing to try to do. I finally took the project on in February 2009 and completed it in January 2016. The recordings presented here are drafts of each of these 37 songs, some are rougher than others, and some are more like finished versions. They are not necessarily an attempt to imitate Dylan (although some clearly nod), and not an attempt to try to write the songs he would have written. Just my songs using his lines as a jumping off point.
Volume One of the Hard Rain songs is "Goin' Back Out." These 14 songs were written entirely during the month of February as part of February Album Writing Month 2009.
Volume Two of the Hard Rain songs is "Find the Road." These eleven songs were written and recorded as part of February Album Writing Month 2010. Available for free or set-your-own price at bandcamp.com
Volume Three of the Hard Rain Songs is "Stand with Me." This demo collection includes 11 songs written during 2011 as well as two songs written in 2013, and the final song of the collection, "REflect it From the Mountains" written in 2016. Available for free or set-your-own price at bandcamp.com
