Calculating potential grade
Ok folks, bear with me. Below I list four formulas for trying to figure how many FRQ points you would need to get your desired score, based on your multiple choice score. I symbolize FRQ as FRQ and multiple choice score as MC
To figure out how many FRQ points you need to earn a 3, use this formula
FRQ= (75-(MC x 0.909)/1.5
This will tell you how many total points you need on the FRQ to get a 3. To know how many you need per question, divide the answer by 4.
For instance, if your MC is 60.
60 times 0.909 = 54.54
75-54.54= 20.46
So you would need 21 FRQ points, or about 5 points per FRQ to get a 3.

To figure out how many FRQ points you need to earn a 4, use this formula
FRQ= (87-(MC x 0.909)/1.5
This will tell you how many total points you need on the FRQ to get a 4. To know how many you need per question, divide the answer by 4.

To figure out how many FRQ points you need to earn a 5, use this formula
FRQ= (107-(MC x 0.909)/1.5
This will tell you how many total points you need on the FRQ to get a 5. To know how many you need per question, divide the answer by 4.

Practice test scores posted
I have posted the scores for all of the students who completed the practice test last week. The scores are posted in Aeries under a category called "Practice" so that it will not affect your grade.
How to interpret your score:
First of all, keep in mind that we still have more than two weeks to learn and review, so ideally your score on the test in May will be higher than this, this is not a predicition of your future score, but can hopefully give you a good idea of what to do to be ready to get the best score possible on the 7th.
Ona similar past AP exam the score breakdown went something like this:
About 30% of students scoring between 41 and 53 ultimately passed the exam.
About 95% of students scoring between 54 and 65 ultimately passed the exam.
99.5% of students scoring between 66 and 78 scored 4s and 5s.
99% of students scoring 79 and higher earned 5s.
While setting your study goals, keep in mind that a 3 earns at least elective credit at most universitiesbut scores of 4 and 5 usuallynget you general education credit for a specific course.

Grades Update - QTR One
I have added the Chapter 11 and 12 test. The highest earned was 44, and I threw out one question. So that is equal to 90% and is the curve set point for the test. I doubled it, so the test is out of 88.
To determine how the Food project can affect your grade, take your current grade and times by 0.76, this will tell you what your grade would be if you do not turn in the assignment (or if you get a zero on it). Add 24 to that number, and it will tell you what your grade will be if you get full credit for the assignment.

Updates Chapter 6 Powerpoint
Here is a link to an updated pdf of the chapter 6 powerpoint. This is the current one I actually used in class. It is a pdf that has one page for each slide, so you may want to choose how to print it carefully.

How to use this page
1. Use this page to print out the review questions that are assigned for each chapter.
2. Use this page to download and print the PowerPoint presentations for some chapters. If you do not have PowerPoint on your computer, you can download a free PowerPoint reader by going to the "links" section of this web page. Using the print dialogue you should be able to print several PowerPoint slides on a single page. I recommend that you print these before coming to class - this way you will not need to write down the words from every slide, and you can take notes directly onto the printouts of the slides.
3. The day before some chapter tests you may be able to download "comments." These are guidelines to help you focus your study on the parts of a chapter that will certainly be tested and to have some idea (usually) of what the FRQs will be for that chapter.
4. When available use this page to print out "Durand Notes." These are Mr. Durand's own distillation of each chapter's main points, figures, tables, and examples. They are especially valuable as a review tool for the AP exam.
